Hand-Colored Prints

After signing and numbering prints, I’ll oftentimes add color to a small number of them by hand, using Prismacolor art pencils. Only a small portion of a print will be colored, as I feel too much color detracts from the detail of the original work. However, even in such a small area (such as a faery’s wing) I’ll use upwards of two dozen different colors to give it just the right hue… Hand-coloring is a way of ‘personalizing’ a piece, and no two hand-colored prints are ever exactly alike.

Can you choose which colors your print is ‘hand-colored’ in? Of course – that’s the fun part!

(On a traditional hand-colored “Wings,” the Monarch fairy has wings in a combination of oranges and yellows, the Mourning Cloak fairy is in blues and purples, and the Luna Moth fairy is in minty greens. This looks exquisite!, and I would highly recommend these color choices.)
